Polk County Schools is partnering with local nonprofit Higher Academia to provide learning spaces, or Community Learning Centers, for students in middle or high school. These could be students who are learning remotely, or who need internet access or support on days when they are not at school.
The first center is being offered at Steps to Hope in Columbus in early March. The site will operate Monday through Thursday with two sessions – one from 8 am to noon, and the second from 1 pm to 5 pm. Students will be able to attend one of the sessions per day. The site will provide a safe environment with internet access for students to come and complete schoolwork, and students can also receive learning support from volunteers. These sites will follow all current health and safety guidelines, and all volunteers will be screened and background checked.
If you are interested in having your student participate in this learning site you should complete the included Community Learning Center Registration Contact Form by Wednesday of next week, March 3.
The link to the form is: https://forms.gle/r6DndR75oQ8aj2vZ7
Once you complete the form and submit your contact information a volunteer will be in touch with you to complete registration for the learning center.
Again, if you are interested in your middle or high school student participating in the Community Learning Center please complete the linked form and someone will be in touch with you in the coming week.
