Hello. This is an automated message from Aaron Greene. I am calling tonight with more updates on school reopening.
First, I want to talk about making sure students arrive healthy to school. We will be requiring all families of students returning to in person learning to sign an attestation form agreeing to not send your student to school if they are sick or exhibiting any symptoms like a fever, chills, shortness of breath, a new cough, or new loss of taste or smell. The attestation also indicates you will not medicate your child to mask symptoms, send your student to school if they have been diagnosed with COVID19, or if they have been designated a close contact or quarantined by the Health Department or their doctor. It is very important to the safety and well being of all our students and staff to make sure your students only attend in person if they are healthy. We need your help in making sure you check your child’s health each day before sending them to the bus stop or dropping them off at school. Once students get to school they will be screened for temperature and asked if they have any of the indicated symptoms. Please help by encouraging your child to let you or us know if they are not feeling well. These forms can be reviewed at https://polkschools.org/reopening under health attestation and we will be getting paper copies to families later this week.
Second, I want to let you know about afterschool for this year for students who are attending in person. Applications for PEAK After School for the 2020-2021 school year are now available on the After School page at polkschools.org. Paper applications are available at the district office located at Stearns Education Center in Columbus, or they can be mailed upon request. The PEAK program is open to Polk County Schools students in grades K – 8. Initially all students will be placed on a waiting list, and you will be notified before school begins if your child has received a spot in the program or will remain on that waiting list. After School will follow the same health and safety guidelines as the schools during the day. Students may only attend After School on the days they attend in person school. Please contact PEAK director, Linley Foster at (828) 894-3051 if you have any questions.
Finally, if you have chosen Wolverine Academy for your student but did not receive a phone message earlier this evening, please contact Coordinator DeShane Briscoe at 828-894-1013.
I will be calling again with more information soon. Thank you, and have a great night.
