April 22, 2020

Hello, Polk Families and Community!  This is Aaron Greene with your April 22 update.

We have prepared and will be posting and distributing a new set of recommended learning activities for students for the upcoming week tomorrow, Thursday, April 23.  A large portion of these activities will be covering new material so it is very important that students and families do their best to engage in the work.  When we do return we want to make sure students are as prepared as possible.  Our teachers have done their best to make the activities accessible and reasonable, and they are ready to help if needed.  Thank you for encouraging your students to complete the work.  Reach out to your child’s teacher or principal if you have specific questions or needs.

These activities will be posted online at our www.polkschools.org/learning site by 11:00 am tomorrow.  We will have paper packets prepared and available for students who need them.  Packets for students in grades PK-5 can be picked up tomorrow at any elementary school from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and for students in grades 6-8 at Polk Middle School at the same times.  Polk High School and Polk Early College students who need paper packets should contact their school to have those packets mailed or to set up a time to pick them up.  If you are not able to pick up packets tomorrow you can contact your child’s school by phone to set up a different time or way to get these materials.

Tonight’s quote is attributed to C. S. Lewis and even though that may not be accurate I think the quote is great – “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”  We can’t go back and change things regarding this event or to lessen the impacts of COVID19, but we can decide how we move forward.  We can control how we react and how we support each other.  We can make sure the ending is more positive than the beginning.  Thanks for taking care of each other.  Better days are ahead.
