April 15, 2020

Hello, Polk Families and Community!  This is Aaron Greene with your April 15 update.

We have prepared and will be posting and distributing a new set of recommended learning activities for students for the upcoming week tomorrow, Thursday, April 16.  A large portion of these activities will be covering new material so it is very important that students and families do their best to engage in the work.  When we do return we want to make sure students are as prepared as possible.  Our teachers have done their best to make the activities accessible and reasonable, and they are ready to help if needed.  Thank you for encouraging your students to complete the work.  Reach out to your child’s teacher or principal if you have specific questions or needs.

These activities will be posted online at our www.polkschools.org/learning site by 11:00 am tomorrow.  We will have paper packets prepared and available for students who need them.  Packets for students in grades PK-5 can be picked up tomorrow at any elementary school from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Paper work packets for students in grades 6-8 can be picked up tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm at Polk Middle School.  Polk High School and Polk Early College students who need paper packets should contact their school to have those packets mailed or to set up a time to pick them up.  If you are not able to pick up packets tomorrow you can contact your child’s school by phone to set up a different time or way to get these materials.

This is the time of year we usually send out applications for Pre-K.  Those applications are now available at all elementary schools and you can pick them up between 11 am and 1 pm during lunch distribution.  Just complete the application and mail it back in using the included self-addressed envelope.  We are excited about having your youngest scholars joining our Pre-K program and please spread the word to those who may not get these messages.  If you have questions about Pre-K or need to get an application at a different time, please contact us at Stearns at 828-894-3051.

Tonight’s quote is from Brian Herbert – “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.”  I hope that our students will choose to focus daily effort on learning.  Getting an education is the best way to prepare for your future.  Keep making good choices and keep learning.  Better days are ahead.
