April 8, 2020

Hello, Polk Families and Community!  This is Aaron Greene with your April 8 update.

We have prepared and will be posting and distributing a new set of recommended learning activities for students for the upcoming week tomorrow, Thursday, April 9.   I remind you that it is important for us to encourage all students to do their best to engage in the activities during the closing in order to be prepared for the day we return to school.  These activities will be posted online at our www.polkschools.org/learning site by 11:00 am tomorrow.  We will have paper packets prepared and available for students who need them.  Packets for students in grades PK-5 can be picked up tomorrow at any elementary school from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Paper work packets for students in grades 6-8 can be picked up tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm at Polk Middle School.  Polk High School and Polk Early College students who need paper packets should contact their school to have those packets mailed or to set up a time to pick them up.  If you are not able to pick up packets tomorrow you can contact your child’s school by phone to set up a different time or way to get these materials.

We will also be distributing Chromebooks for students in grades 3-5 who need them tomorrow and the next day, that’s Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 1 pm.  We do ask that students go to their assigned elementary school if they are going to pick up a chromebook.  When you drive in let one of the staff members know you need a chromebook.  Then someone will come to your vehicle with the Chromebook and ask for a student name and student number.  Hopefully your student will know their number.  We will record who is receiving the device and give it to you.  Just a reminder these devices must have internet access to be used.  We ask that you only take one if it is needed and will be used.

Tonight’s quote is from the famous blues player and singer B. B. King – “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” I challenge all our students to try and do your best to learn each day.  It will make a difference for you once we return to school.  So keep learning and take care of each other, Polk County.  Better days are ahead.
