Hello, Polk Families and Community! This is an automated message from Superintendent Aaron Greene with the March 18 update you on COVID19 and our school district status. First I want to thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and support of each other. I am continuously impressed by our Polk community and how folks are working together diligently to support each other during this new reality.
I want to remind you that we are providing FREE meals to all Polk County children and gave out approximately 300 meals today. We will have meals ready for pickup at each elementary school between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. This food is free for all Polk children including middle and high school age students. The pickup process is a drive through distribution where parents or caregivers drive up, tell the number of children in the household, and receive that number of meals through their window. Each package has a lunch meal and breakfast for the next day. We will have the Friday food bags at the end of each week for those students and families who get them regularly. We remind you to go to please go to the elementary school in your community to pick up meals as our middle and high schools will not be used as distribution sites. Please visit our COVID19 site for details and updates.
We have also created a brief survey for parents to submit questions or concerns to us. It can be found on our COVID19 website. We will read these questions and post responses for all to view. I do ask that you submit questions via this system as I have instructed my staff to direct your questions to this portal. There are many questions for which we will have no answers or only partial answers. As you know, things are changing by the day, sometimes by the hour. We will continue to update the responses as we learn more.
Finally, I want to remind you to visit our www.polkschools.org/coronavirus page for the latest updates and information on our efforts to support our kids and families. There are new links to CLEVER and NCEDCLOUD on the student activities page. Our counselors will soon be posting resources there on how to talk with our kids about the pandemic. We have also posted information in Spanish. Once we begin answering family and community questions the responses will be posted there as well.
Once again I ask you to help each other and to be patient with each other as we move forward. I am proud of our Polk Schools Family and the Polk County community working together to make it through this. Better days are ahead. Thank you.
