McMinn chosen as Polk Central Elementary’s next principal

Polk County Middle School English Language Arts teacher Kim McMinn has been named the next principal of Polk Central Elementary School.

McMinn, a veteran educator with experience at all levels, will replace current principal Jan Crump, who is moving to Polk County Schools’ district office as Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

McMinn’s new role is effective August 1.

“Polk Central Elementary School has an amazing staff of dedicated educators,” McMinn said. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for this group of teachers. The PCES staff and surrounding community have been an integral part of the success of Polk County Schools.

“Working at Polk County Middle School for the past six years has allowed me to experience firsthand the hard work and care our elementary teachers put into each student to prepare them for their next steps. I am honored to have been chosen to be a part of the solid foundation our elementary educators provide the students of Polk County.”

McMinn has primarily served as an ELA teacher in her career, but has also taught math, social studies and science and has teaching experience at the elementary, middle school, high school and community college levels. She joined the Polk County Middle School faculty in 2015.

A National Board Certified Teacher, McMinn holds master’s degrees in Teaching Secondary English Education and School Administration. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.

She served as the administrator for Polk Central’s Jump Start program in 2020 and has been actively involved with educator professional development and school improvement programs while at Polk County Middle.

“Polk County Schools is excited to announce that Kim McMinn will serve as the next principal for Polk Central Elementary,” said Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene. “Mrs. McMinn has a wealth of experience as an educator, and I am confident her focus on student and staff growth will help Polk Central continue to achieve at high levels.

“We congratulate Kim McMinn and welcome her to our administrative ranks.”
