Nature trail adventure brings science to life for Polk Central fourth graders

Fourth-grade students at Polk Central Elementary School participated this week in an outdoor education experience with Champions for Wildlife, exploring the school’s nature trail to study living organisms in their natural environment.

The wildlife education program guided students along sections of the campus nature trail, where they observed and documented various insects and arthropods. Students discovered caterpillars, a praying mantis, cocoons and numerous other invertebrates during their outdoor classroom experience.

The hands-on exploration allowed students to apply classroom science concepts about ecosystems, habitats and life cycles while conducting field observations. Students examined how different species utilize the school’s natural environment for shelter, food sources and reproduction.

Champions for Wildlife specializes in environmental education programs that connect students with local wildlife and habitats. The organization provides interactive learning experiences designed to foster understanding of ecological relationships and conservation principles.
