Students from Polk County High School and Polk County Middle School performed in the 2023-24 Foothills Honor Band on Nov. 18 at R-S Central High School in Rutherfordton.

Band directors from Polk and Rutherford counties selected students from their programs to represent each school at the clinic. Band students from R-S Central, East Rutherford, Chase and Polk County High Schools and R-S Central, East Rutherford, Chase and Polk County Middle Schools were included in the ensembles.

Polk County Middle School had 21 students in the middle school ensemble (the most of any middle school) while Polk County High School had 17 students in the high school ensemble.

Students rehearsed for two days with guest clinicians and performed the concert on the evening of the second day. “This is an impressive feat and truly shows the high level of talent and dedication of these student musicians,” said Christopher Wilson, band director at Polk County Middle School.

This year’s middle school clinician was Tim Sale, band director at Swain County Middle School. The high school clinician was Kevin Young, band director at Enka High School.
