Polk County Schools to reopen on two-hour delay on October 9

An update for all Polk County Schools students and familes from Superintendent Aaron Greene:

After assessing our facilities, bus drivers and routes, communications and staffing, we will indeed reopen all schools on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, October 9. Again, all schools will open for students on a two-hour delay for Wednesday, October 9.

The delay is to afford some daylight for our buses and young drivers to be sure they can see any changes or potential hazards. We advise all to take extra precautions. There may also be some small modification to several bus routes, and in those cases the driver or school will be in touch.

Barring some unforeseen change to conditions, we will operate on a regular schedule Thursday and Friday.

Please share this message with others.

Because we receive questions about delays, please remember that a two-hour delay means schools will open for students by 9:30 a.m. with instruction starting around 10 a.m., and all bus routes will run two hours behind normal schedule. If your child is normally picked up at 6:45 a.m., they will be picked up tomorrow at approximately 8:45 a.m. Contact your school if you have any questions.

Thanks again to all families for your patience, and for all those who volunteered in your communities. Please remember my previous message stating that any student or family who is not ready to return does not have to. Just reach out to your school and let them know if you are planning to restart later, and we will work with you.

Polk County is a special place, and our families and educators are a huge reason why. I wish everyone a successful restart, and I am excited to get to Better Days!
