Polk Central fifth graders talk trees with Tryon Garden Club members

The participation in North Carolina Arbor Day by fifth grade students in Andrea Walter’s class at Polk Central Elementary caught the eye of a local group.

The Tryon Garden Club took notice of the class’ Arbor Day Plant A Tree project, during which students distrbuted tree seedlings donated by Unity in the Community. Several Garden Club members received some of those seedlings and now have them growing in their gardens.

Six of Walter’s students also joined a recent Zoom meeting with the TGC’s Hospitality and Program Committee and David Staley of Unity in the Community. Each student displayed a poster they created as well as talked about facts they had learned about trees.

The meeting gave students a chance to practice their presentation skills as well as show the students’ appreciation for the importance of trees in our environment.
