Polk Central kindergarten students learning how to manage emotions

Kindergarten students at Polk Central Elementary have been learning how to manage emotions, especially focusing on calming down when excited.

To help with that self-education, teacher Julia Tackett and school counselor Ashley Bell recently teamed to make “calm down” bottles.

Students liked that bottles and had many things to say about them:

When asked how to use the calm down bottle, Kayleigh S. said, “We shake it up and then we breathe. We watch the bottle.”

When asked why students like the calm down bottles, Harlyn M. said, “Because it glitters, and it calms us down.”

When asked about what to do while using the calm down bottle, Brooke C. said, “We can do rainbow breaths, belly breaths, or soup breaths.”
