Polk Central kindergartners wriggle with worms, both real and gummy

In a lively lesson, students in Amber Styles’ kindergarten class at Polk Central Elementary recently delved into the fascinating world of living versus nonliving organisms.

The young learners embarked on an exploration using an unconventional method: comparing gummy worms to earthworms.Through this hands-on activity, the budding scientists discovered key indicators of life, such as movement, growth and response to stimuli.

Students keenly observed the wriggling motions of the earthworms and contrasted them with the static nature of the gummy worms.

“Many preferred the gummy worms, but handled the earthworms like a champ!” Styles said.
