Polk Central second graders enjoy enriching day

Students in Megan McDaniel’s second grade class at Polk Central Elementary recently invited AIG teacher Kimberly Granville into the classroom for some enrichment.

Class members used tangrams (a type of puzzle consisting of seven flat polygons that are put together to form shapes) to use creativity and artistic abilities to make anything they wanted using only the shapes they cut out.

Math and English Langgage Arts were integrated as students identified geometric shapes and wrote stories with detail and describing words with their picture being the main focus.

Students were able to apply skills and text structure that narrators use – such as writing a hook, beginning, middle, end and conclusion – directly after learning all about narrators in English Language Arts.
