Polk Central students receive comforting Battle Pups

Every student at Polk Central received a special gift Monday as the school distributed Battle Pups, stuffed dogs designed to provide comfort and support during difficult times.

This initiative comes in the wake of the emotional toll many students have experienced following Hurricane Helene’s destructive path through the area.

Battle Pups were created by Way to Battle, an organization founded by a family inspired by their own challenges when one of their children battled cancer. The child is now in remission, and the organization continues to assist families and children facing hardships.

Krista Wagner, an employee with Polk County Schools, played a key role in organizing the event, ensuring that each student could choose a Battle Pup to take home. Students visited the library throughout the day, many leaving with smiles as they cuddled their new companions.

Students at other Polk County elementary schools have also received Battle Pups in recent days.

Polk Central extends its gratitude to the Martin Family and Way to Battle for their generous donation, which brought joy to numerous students. Wagner’s efforts in coordinating this heartwarming event are also acknowledged, highlighting the positive impact on the school community.
