Polk County Early College now accepting applications for 2026-27 school year

Polk County Early College is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 school year, offering students the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree in four years or less.

Applications will be accepted through March 12, 2026. The early college partners with Isothermal Community College to provide dual enrollment opportunities that allow students to earn college credit while completing high school requirements.

This year, PCEC has worked closely with the Early College Network to reframe its program, address North Carolina Portrait of a Graduate requirements and expand community involvement through service learning projects. The school partners with the AIG department, Polk elementary and middle schools, the Kiwanis Club and Champions for Wildlife to provide students with diverse learning and service opportunities.

PCEC students can participate in clubs at the early college and also have access to high school band and athletics through partnership with Polk County High School. The school maintains a history of high academic performance, repeatedly scoring an “A” on the North Carolina Report Card.

Middle school students will receive information about applications directly from the director and current PCEC students during scheduled visits to Polk County Middle School in January and February. Parents interested in learning more can attend information sessions on Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. or Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at Polk County Early College.

PCEC accepts applicants from homeschool networks and other school options outside the public school system. Interested students can pick up applications at Polk County Early College or the Student Services office at Polk County Middle School.
