Polk County first graders bring lessons to life at Greenville Zoo

First-grade students from across Polk County Schools brought their Arts and Letters curriculum to life with a field trip to the Greenville Zoo, where animals became living examples of the concepts they’ve been studying in class.

Students explored a variety of animals up close, learning about their unique features and characteristics. During a guided educational program, they discovered more about animal lifecycles and adaptations, connecting classroom learning to real-world observations.

The field trip aligned with Module 2 of the Arts and Letters curriculum, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that reinforced their studies of animal characteristics and how creatures adapt to their environments.

The Polk County Community Foundation sponsored the trip, enabling all first-grade students across the district to participate in the memorable learning experience at no cost to families.

The zoo visit provided young learners with opportunities to observe animals in person, ask questions about what they were seeing and make connections between their classroom studies and the living creatures before them.
