For the 18th consecutive year, Polk County High School welcomed all of Polk County’s fifth graders to campus for Ag Awareness Day – a beloved tradition that brings agriculture to life for young students through hands-on experiences and student-led presentations.
This year’s event featured seven to eight rotating stations, each running five to seven minutes, where PCHS students guided their younger visitors through the world of agriculture. Fifth graders got up close with pigs, goats, sheep, cows, chickens and ducks, and also learned about growing plants – connecting classroom lessons to the living, breathing realities of farm life.
The Women of Polk County Farm Bureau added to the day with their own presentation, covering important topics in farm safety and agricultural careers and giving students a glimpse of the wide range of opportunities that exist within the agricultural industry.
Ag Awareness Day is a shining example of what makes Polk County Schools special – older students stepping up as teachers and role models, younger students discovering a passion they may carry for a lifetime, and the community coming together around the agricultural heritage that defines this region.
