Polk County High School is looking for welcoming families in the community to open their homes to international exchange students for the 2026-2027 school year – and the experience, say those who have lived it, is one that changes lives on both sides.
The program is coordinated through CETUSA (Council for Educational Travel USA), a nationally certified exchange organization. Host families provide a bed and study area, basic transportation, and three meals a day. In return, they gain a new family member, a window into another culture and a bond that often lasts a lifetime.
“Both the students and the teachers helped me gain more confidence and believe in myself more,” said Zoe, a former exchange student from Spain. “It changed me for the better. I am so grateful for having been taught in such a wonderful, unique, and supportive place.”
Carlos, who came to PCHS from Brazil, put it simply: “My experience at PCHS was great. It was the best time of my life.”
Host families don’t need to fit a particular mold/ Whether you’re a large family, a single parent or empty nesters, if you can provide a safe and loving environment, you have what it takes. Exchange students arrive with their own health and travel insurance and spending money, and are carefully vetted through CETUSA’s admissions process before placement.
International students currently hoping to experience life as a PCHS Wolverine for the upcoming school year are eager to try new sports, clubs and activities alongside their American classmates.
