Saluda first graders take literate look at cowboy life

Stephanie Fletcher’s first grade class at Saluda Elementary recently spent a week learning about cowboy life through literacy.

The unit of study introduced students to new vocabulary such as the chuck wagon. In social studies, students are learning about history, including transportation.

Students imaginatively traveled back in time to learn and write through journaling about life as an early settler. Students also made wagons that would carry their families and supplies west as they moved to start a new life.
