Third Grade

Mr. Chip Cash, Teacher

Welcome to Third Grade

I am looking forward to having a great year with my students!  You will find that third grade is quite different from the primary grades, so I will try to make the transition as smooth as possible for students and parents.  Here is some important information I would like to share with you…

Curriculum

Parents can find information about the Third Grade Curriculum by going to the Polk County Schools – Inside page.  Choose Curriculum and then click on Standard Course of Study.  From there, follow links in the K-12 Standards, Curriculum, & Instruction to find the standards for Elementary – Third Grade.        Get Ready!  Third Grade is our student’s first year of End-of-Grade Testing.  I understand that this may bring some mixed emotions.  However, I believe in Teamwork.  And Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision, which is the success of our students.  Your child has been prepared by great teachers that have served that role before me.  I ask that each student meet me halfway and give their best and I in return will do the same for them.  Working together we can accomplish great things this year and have a successful year.

Homework – Students will have homework Monday through Thursday.  Normally, homework will consist of spelling, math, and reading 20 minutes.  Please allow for a quiet workspace for your child to complete their home assignments, guide them when necessary, and check their work for accuracy and understanding.  Students will have a homework folder to keep up with their work.  It is the student’s responsibility to return homework on time.  I will send your child’s work home on Friday.  Please take time to review your child’s work.  Additionally, this will be the first-year students will use an agenda.  The assignment book will be used to keep track of their spelling words and homework assignments.  Each student is responsible for copying the daily assignment from the board.  Parents, please sign your child’s agenda nightly when all homework has been completed and checked.  The agenda also serves as a communication resource between teacher and parent.

Expectations and Class Rules

WORK HARD AND BE KIND.  I have high expectations for your child academically and socially.  I want to teach them not only what comes with being a successful student but also build up their values that go along with being a good citizen and neighbor in our classroom community.

Closing

I am excited about this new school year.  I look forward to spending time with you and your child.  If you need me, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I am available to talk with you between 3:10-3:30. If these times are not convenient, you may call the office and set up a conference.  Thank you for taking the time to read through this information.

Important Information:

Agendas- All students will receive an assignment book to keep track of homework assignments. Each student is responsible for copying the daily assignment from the board. Parents are to sign their child’s agenda nightly when all homework has been completed and checked. The agenda is to come to and from school daily.

Attendance-Good attendance plays a vital role in your child’s success. The third grade curriculum is very challenging. Students that are habitually tardy, absent or picked up early have a difficult time staying up with class material.

Homework-Students will receive homework Monday through Thursday nights. Normally, homework will consist of spelling, Wordly Wise, reading, writing, and math. Any unfinished class work will be sent home as homework. Homework is given so your child will practice skills taught during the day. Please allow for a quiet workspace for your child to complete their home assignments, guide them when necessary and check their work for accuracy and understanding.

Homework Folders-Students will have a homework folder to keep up with their work. It is the student’s responsibility to return homework on time. We will send your child’s work home weekly. Please take time to review your child’s work.
