At their September meeting, the State Board of Education released information about the performance of NC students on State and Federal assessments. The links below highlight important sections of this reporting.
Polk County – State Ranking Report
Public schools and charter schools will receive annually a letter grade under the General Assembly’s A-F School Performance Grades. The grades are based on the the percentage of students passing End of Year assessments and the students’ academic growth.
School Performance Grades were not calculated for the 2020-21 school year.
The NC General Assembly passed the Read to Achieve Law in 2013. The Law requires all 3rd grade students to demonstrate reading proficiency before being promoted to the 4th grade. Each year school systems must report the number/percentage of students who met the requirements to be promoted to 4th grade. All testing reports are required to conceal groups of students that contain fewer than 10 students. This requirement makes it difficult to fully understand the Reading Proficiency report linked below.
