Sunny View Elementary School has received a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation and the Marjorie M. & Lawrence R. Bradley Endowment Fund to establish a comprehensive bluegrass music program for students.
The grant funding has equipped the school with a complete inventory of traditional instruments, including violins, mandolins, autoharps, guitars, dulcimers, ukuleles, an acoustic bass and a washboard. The new instruments will enable students to learn and perform traditional bluegrass music as part of their educational experience.
The bluegrass program aims to provide students with opportunities to develop musical skills while building community connections through collaborative music-making. Students will learn to play traditional music styles that reflect the cultural heritage of the Appalachian region.
The Marjorie M. & Lawrence R. Bradley Endowment Fund, administered through the Polk County Community Foundation, supports educational and cultural initiatives throughout the community.
