Culbreth selected as 2026 Brumley Award recipient

A Polk Central Elementary School teacher who embodies the spirit of lifelong learning has been chosen to carry forward a legacy of educational excellence established by one of Polk County’s most dedicated educators.

Rachel Culbreth, second-grade teacher at Polk Central Elementary, has been awarded the 2026 Janice Anderson Brumley Award, which supports teachers in pursuing continuing education experiences and professional development.

Janice Anderson Brumley dedicated more than 30 years to teaching students in Polk County Schools. Throughout her career, she pursued ongoing growth by attending conferences across the state and country and earning both a master’s degree and National Board Certification. After her passing, her family established the legacy award to assist teachers in furthering their education, certifications and professional experiences in her memory.

Culbreth plans to use the award to attend the Get Your Teach On Conference later this month. Her desire is to better her own educational practices and to encourage others to do so as a mentor.
