Early College history students navigate medieval challenges in mock feudal system

Freshmen students in Holly Stone’s World History class at Polk County Early College participated in a mock feudal system activity designed to bring medieval history to life through interactive learning.

Students were assigned specific roles within the feudal hierarchy and worked collaboratively to address historical challenges including famine, plagues and warfare. The activity required students to operate within the constraints of their assigned social positions while developing solutions to complex problems.

The simulation encouraged students to apply their knowledge of medieval social structures while developing negotiation and problem-solving skills. Students experienced the limitations imposed by different levels of the feudal system, gaining firsthand understanding of how social hierarchy affected decision-making in medieval society.

The students faced excitement and frustration as they faced many challenges, but in the end, these freshmen learned the art of negotiation and the importance of leveraging resources.
