Students from Polk County Early College took part in the Walk of Remembrance in late September, supporting efforts to raise awareness around suicide prevention and mental health issues among teens.
The event, which aims to honor those affected by suicide, saw an enthusiastic turnout, with students playing a hands-on role in various activities.
Participants from Polk County Early College were involved in several aspects of the event, including painting faces, operating the cotton candy machine, and serving ICEEs to attendees. The event aligns with the mission of the school’s National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter, the first high school NAMI chapter in the nation.
The Walk of Remembrance serves as a platform to promote mental health awareness and engage the community in conversations about suicide prevention. Polk County Early College students, who are deeply committed to these issues, learned valuable lessons in community service and the importance of giving back.
