Early College students share love of reading with Polk Central students

Polk County Early College students traded their textbooks for picture books this week, visiting Polk Central Elementary classrooms to read aloud and inspire younger students during Read Aloud to a Child Week.

Members of Key Club and Student Council visited several classes to share stories and encourage a love for literacy among elementary students. The cross-campus partnership allowed older students to serve as reading role models while building connections across grade levels.

Read Aloud to a Child Week promotes literacy by encouraging adults and older students to read with children, fostering a love of books and strengthening reading skills.

The visit created opportunities for elementary students to see high school students engaged with reading, demonstrating that literacy remains important throughout education. Early College students also gained experience in mentorship and community service through the reading visits.
