Elementary choruses spread holiday cheer through community caroling

Elementary students from Polk Central Elementary and Sunny View Elementary brought Christmas cheer to Polk County’s senior population through caroling performances at local senior living communities in December.

Sunny View Elementary’s chorus traveled to LaurelHurst on Thursday, Dec. 11, while Polk Central Elementary’s chorus performed at Ridge Rest and Tryon Estates on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Under the direction of Lacey Cochran, music teacher for both schools, each chorus performed 30-minute programs featuring holiday songs in English, Spanish, German, Latin and Hebrew.

Students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share their musical talents with seniors. Sunny View fourth-grader Chandler Nicholson said he was thankful to visit LaurelHurst. Fifth-grader Konnor Thompson said he had a great time singing and enjoyed getting to know the elderly residents.

Polk Central fifth-grader Addison Crandall described the experience as amazing and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to visit Ridge Rest and Tryon Estates residents.

The residents responded enthusiastically to the performances, with smiles, compliments and some joining in to sing along. The caroling provided students with opportunities to use their abilities to give back to the Polk County community while bringing joy to senior residents during the holiday season.
