Polk County High School horticulture students received a professional perspective on landscape architecture careers when they hosted Darren Meyer, an architect with MKSK, an employee-owned planning, design and landscape architecture firm.
Meyer works on projects throughout the United States and recently contributed to Unity Park in Greenville. He met with students in the Horticulture 2 Landscape class to discuss landscape architecture and design principles.
The students will tour Unity Park with Meyer on April 14, providing an opportunity to see his work firsthand and understand how design concepts translate into real-world public spaces.
Unity Park, which opened in Greenville in 2022, transformed a former industrial site into a community gathering space featuring trails, gardens, play areas and public art. The tour will allow students to see how landscape architects create functional, beautiful public spaces that serve communities.
