Polk County High School students Porter Langley and Mason Littlefield spent part of their summer gaining hands-on agricultural experience while helping care for and maintain the Polk County High School Farm.
The internships were supported through an Ag Summer Internship Grant from the Polk County Community Foundation.
Langley and Littlefield, both active in Polk County High School’s agricultural education and FFA programs, took on a variety of responsibilities during their time at the farm.
Their work included feeding and caring for farm animals, maintaining vegetable and flower gardens and handling general lawn and grounds maintenance.
The students also assisted with demolition work involving old pasture fencing, helping prepare areas of the farm for future use and improvements.
The summer internships gave Langley and Littlefield an opportunity to apply skills connected to Polk County High School’s agricultural education program while taking responsibility for the day-to-day work required to maintain the school farm.
