Polk Central fourth graders learn how vultures help keep the environment clean

Fourth graders at Polk Central Elementary School recently welcomed Champions for Wildlife for a lesson focused on vultures and the role they play in the environment.

Students learned how vultures help keep ecosystems clean by feeding on dead animals and removing material that might otherwise remain in the environment.

The visit gave students a closer look at an animal that is sometimes misunderstood while connecting wildlife study with environmental science.

After learning about vultures, students added an art component to the experience by creating origami vulture puppets.
