Second-grade students in Stacey Stafford’s class at Polk Central Elementary have begun exploring the Arts & Letters curriculum, an integrated approach combining reading instruction with visual arts education.
The year-long program strengthens English Language Arts skills while connecting students to the natural world, history and culture through diverse literary texts. Students study poetry, nonfiction and fiction works alongside examinations of famous artwork.
The curriculum design allows students to make cross-disciplinary connections between written and visual forms of expression. Through this approach, reading comprehension develops alongside cultural awareness and artistic appreciation.
The Arts & Letters program represents part of Polk Central Elementary’s commitment to providing enriched learning experiences that extend beyond traditional subject boundaries.
