Polk County FFA earns 15th banner with summer camp victory

Polk County High School FFA added another championship banner to its collection this summer, with Polk White capturing first place during the North Carolina FFA Camp Program at White Lake.

The victory marked the 15th camp banner earned by the Polk County FFA Chapter and gave Polk County a second consecutive championship after Polk Blue won the competition last summer.

Twenty-five Polk County students in grades 9-12 attended the weeklong camp, competing as two teams, Polk White and Polk Blue.

The North Carolina FFA Camp Program brings together FFA chapters from across the state for leadership development, character-building activities and recreational competition.

Each day begins with devotional services, flag-raising ceremonies and calisthenics. Students also participate in leadership sessions designed to strengthen interpersonal and leadership skills.

Competition includes water sports such as swimming, canoeing and water ball, along with basketball, volleyball, softball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, checkers and table tennis. Events operate on a point system, with the team accumulating the most points earning the championship.

This year, that team was Polk White.
