Polk County High band earns NCBA Program of Distinction honor

Polk County High School’s band program has been recognized as a 2025-26 North Carolina Bandmasters Association Program of Distinction.

The recognition honors band programs across North Carolina for excellence both in performance and in areas including participation, advocacy and community involvement. Schools earn the designation through an application and review process that also considers achievement at Music Performance Adjudication.

This is the first year the North Carolina Bandmasters Association has recognized Programs of Distinction.

Under the direction of band director Kimberley Benson, Polk County High students spent the 2025-26 school year rehearsing, performing and participating in community events while maintaining high musical and academic standards.

“We are so proud of the PCHS Band students who invested countless hours into rehearsals, performances, and community events throughout the year,” Benson said. “This designation is a testament to the high standards that they display musically and academically.

“We are grateful for the band families, administrators, teachers, alumni, community members, local businesses and the Polk County Community Foundation who consistently support our band program. Their support makes our success possible, and we appreciate all you do to help us consistently achieve excellence in our musical endeavors.”
