Band students from Polk County Middle School recently traded the classroom for a live concert experience at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
Students attended a performance by Germany’s Phaeton Piano Trio as part of TFAC’s Arts Outreach for Kids series. The event was sponsored by the Tryon Concert Association.
Featuring piano, violin and cello, the trio performed works by Beethoven, Schubert, Haydn and other composers while also helping students understand what they were hearing.
Between selections, the musicians talked with students about composers, musical styles, tempo and the instruments themselves, turning the performance into both a concert and a music lesson.
Students described the performance as “amazing.”
The visit gave Polk Middle band students an opportunity to hear professional musicians perform live while reinforcing concepts they encounter through their own music studies.
