Polk Middle’s Ferran receives 2025 Brumley Award

Polk County Middle School teacher Jeanne Ferran has been named the recipient of the 2025 Janice Anderson Brumley Award. Ferran plans to use the award to pursue her National Board Certification, furthering her commitment to educational excellence.

The annual scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Janice Anderson Brumley, a beloved educator who served Polk County for more than 30 years. The award supports educators seeking continuing education experiences or certifications, reflecting Brumley’s lifelong dedication to professional growth and educational advancement.

“I worked with Janice for my first few years at Polk County Middle and she was my mentor and classroom neighbor,” said Ferran, who serves as Academically or Intellectually Gifted Teacher at Polk County Middle. “Her compassionate nature, her care for kids, and her commitment to enlightening students to draw their own conclusions impacted my own educational practice, and I loved being on her team.”

Brumley was widely recognized for her belief that becoming the best educator possible required continuous learning and self-improvement. This philosophy is embodied in the scholarship that bears her name, which annually assists educators in pursuing professional development opportunities.
