Saluda Elementary fifth-graders graduate from DARE program

Fifth-grade students in Ginger Rackley’s class at Saluda Elementary School celebrated their completion of the DARE program with a graduation ceremony before the start of winter break.

School Resource Officer Sgt. Amy Ferguson presented each student with a certificate and DARE t-shirt recognizing their participation in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. Ferguson also presented DARE stuffed lions to Anna Grace Hunter, Victoria Plylar and Jackson Trivette for their participation in DARE classes and the essays they wrote.

The DARE program teaches students skills to resist peer pressure, make good decisions and avoid drugs and violence. Through weekly lessons, students learn about the dangers of substance abuse and develop strategies for handling difficult situations.

Ferguson worked with the fifth-graders over several months, building relationships with students while teaching them important life skills for making healthy choices.
