School Re-Opening and Road Conditions

Last Updated: [2/3/26 at 4:55pm]

Polk County Schools will resume classes on a two hour delay beginning Wednesday, February 4th.

While many main roads have improved, some secondary and rural roads remain icy and unsafe for school bus travel. To ensure student safety, school buses will not travel on certain roads until conditions improve.

Roads Not Served by School Buses

School buses will not travel on the following roads due to lingering ice and safety concerns:

(This list reflects known conditions at this time and may be updated as road conditions improve.)

If You Are Unable to Provide Transportation

If your student lives on one of the roads listed above and is unable to be transported safely by family or guardians, please call your child’s school to let them know.

Families experiencing unique circumstances related to the recent weather events that may prevent their student from attending school should contact their child’s school as soon as possible. School staff will work with families to review individual situations and provide appropriate support.

Attendance & Assignments

Absences related to transportation limitations caused by icy road conditions will be excused.

Schools will work with families to:

  • Provide missed assignments
  • Allow additional time for completion
  • Make appropriate academic accommodations

Safety First

Even when main roads appear clear, shaded areas, hills, bridges, and secondary roads may still have dangerous icy patches. These temporary route adjustments are being made to ensure the safety of students, drivers, and families.
