Staff Spotlight: Crystal Lawter

For Crystal Lawter, the most rewarding part of her day comes in the simple moments when students stop by the Polk County Middle School office just to say good morning.

As administrative assistant at PCMS, Lawter is the first person to greet parents, students and community members when they walk through the door. For nearly 23 years, she has been creating a welcoming environment with her constant smile and kind word for everyone.

“I strive each day to make a difference in one person’s life,” Lawter said. “I feel rewarded each morning when a few students drop by just to say good morning and have a nice day.”

Behind the scenes, Lawter keeps communication clear between staff, students and parents while ensuring the office runs smoothly. She works to help each person who comes through the door feel supported.

When students or parents enter the office, especially on difficult days, Lawter wants them to feel valued.

“I feel it takes each and every one of us to make PCMS a special place,” she said.

Principal Adam Dedmon said Lawter’s dedication and cheerful spirit help make PCMS feel warm and welcoming.

“Whether she’s answering questions, lending a helping hand, or keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, Crystal’s dedication and cheerful spirit are a big part of what makes PCMS feel like home,” Dedmon said.
