Tryon Elementary fifth graders explore natural history, indigenous cultures at museum

From examining natural history exhibits to walking nature trails and learning about American Indian cultures, Tryon Elementary School fifth graders immersed themselves Oct. 9 in hands-on learning at the Schiele Museum of Natural History in Gastonia.

Students explored the museum’s natural history exhibits and participated in an American Indian Culture Program. They also toured the museum’s farm exhibit and walked the nature trail, connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences.

The field trip aligned with the students’ Arts & Letters curriculum, providing opportunities to explore cultural heritage and natural science through interactive programming.

The Polk County Community Foundation provided funding for the trip, enabling all fifth grade students to participate in the educational experience.

The Schiele Museum of Natural History in Gastonia offers educational programming that connects students with natural history, science and cultural heritage through exhibits, live animals and outdoor experiences.
