First-grade students at Tryon Elementary School recently embarked on an out-of-this-world learning adventure, exploring moon phases through hands-on activities that connected science with personal goal-setting.
The unit taught young learners about the phases of the moon while incorporating lessons on goal-setting and personal achievement. Students rotated through different first-grade classrooms, each featuring a unique space-themed activity.
The dynamic approach ensured every child experienced multiple perspectives on how the moon travels across the night sky. The rotation model fostered an interactive, collaborative learning environment where students learned from different teachers and worked with various classmates.
By combining astronomy concepts with character development lessons on setting and achieving goals, the unit provided students with both academic knowledge and life skills.
