Polk County High School student Banks Barber finished fifth among 32 competitors at the North Carolina FFA Tractor Driving Career Development Event, marking the highest placement from the West Region.
The competition, held February 6 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds during the Southern Farm Show, tested students’ ability to safely navigate a hydrostatic tractor through a predetermined course.
Ty Booker of Rockingham County claimed first place in the event, which evaluates participants on their knowledge and demonstration of tractor safety practices and operational skills.
The annual competition provides FFA members with an opportunity to demonstrate real-world agricultural equipment operation abilities in a competitive setting.
